The beauty of Chindian.
Chindian, a term commonly used only in Malaysia used to refer to the offspring of Chinese-Indian marriages. And amazingly, most of them look like Malays. I checked and its not even in the dictionary. Well, There are also some words or phrases only used in Malaysian English.Typically, for words or phrases that are based on other English words, we may be unaware that the word or phrase is not present in British or American English.
- Handphone (often abbreviated to HP) ... ... ... Mobile phone or Cell phone
- KIV (keep in view-- a term I always noticed when I was working at the law firm) ... ... ... Kept on file, held for further consideration
- Outstation ... ... ... Means both 'out of town' and/or 'overseas/abroad'.
- MC (medical certificate). Often used in this context, e.g. 'He is on MC today' ... ... ... Sick note
- Can ... ... ... Yes/Alright
- Photostat... ... ... Photocopy, Xerox
- Cannot ... ... ... No
- One hundred over, one thousand over etc. ... ... ... Over one hundred, over one thousand etc.
That's amazing isn't it. That's Malaysia. Uh, seemed like I'm a little off the track. Back to the main. I went to Sanjaya's birthday party today and it was such an eye-opening -- I was soooo shocked when his mother (Chinese) can talked Chinese very fluently and beautifully. How wonderful! totally cool eh? I found out that there were actually alot of hidden stuffs to be discovered from this Chindian family -- Their culture, food, language and stuffs. His little brother looks like Chinese and he know chinese but he actually shy to speak out! How cute! Overall I enjoyed today. But not as much as Kai Yit did. =) lol.
